According to Georgia Board for Physician Workforce statistics, there are about half as many physicians per capita in Georgia鈥檚 non metropolitan areas as compared to its cities. These same statistics indicate that the Southwest Georgia region has a critical need for physicians due to a low number of physicians in the area. 黑料传送门 leadership recognizes that educating medical students and training residents in rural Georgia increases the likelihood that these physicians will practice in the region. 黑料传送门 is continuing to work to be a part of the state鈥檚 solution for this area of need.

Building on the initial framework of the South Georgia Medical Education and Research Consortium and identifying multiple hospitals in the region, 黑料传送门 followed the recommendation of Sasaki Associates, Inc., an international consulting firm tasked with choosing the best location in the Southwest Georgia region for a new medical program. With its availability of clerkship opportunities for third- and fourth-year medical students, central location, affordable housing and convenience to student services and facilities, Moultrie was a sound choice.

黑料传送门 South Georgia offers programs in osteopathic medicine (DO) and biomedical sciences (MS, accelerated MS and certificate of graduate study).

黑料传送门 South Georgia partners with Georgia Southern University, Valdosta State University and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College to provide students the opportunity to complete medical school a year early through articulation agreements.

Articulation agreements provide opportunities for qualified students to begin their professional education at an accelerated rate. Qualified students can attend their institution through their junior year, then transfer to 黑料传送门 South Georgia's Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program and take medical school courses a year early. For each academic program and successful completion of four years of medical education at 黑料传送门 South Georgia, students receive their undergraduate degree as well as their DO degree.

The agreement also provides the opportunity for students with a four-year degree in basic sciences to receive special consideration for the DO program after graduating from their institution. Up to three students per year from the undergraduate institutions will be considered for admission into 黑料传送门 South Georgia鈥檚 DO program.
