After serving as the Southeast Regional Representative and then the National Vice
Chair, Trent Griner (DO 鈥�23) was recently elected as the National Chair of SAOASM
鈥� the student section for the .
Griner has been involved with the organization since beginning medical school in 2019. Over the last three years, he鈥檚 served in different positions with hopes of encouraging and supporting students who are interested in primary care sports medicine. He鈥檚 been a crucial member of the planning committee for each annual conference and has planned monthly webinars and workshops with unique speakers for medical students.
He said his goal within SAOASM is to provide exposure, encouragement, resources and access for medical students interested in primary care sports medicine.
鈥淭he most exciting thing about my position within SAOASM is getting to work so closely with people doing exactly what I want to do in the future, and I鈥檓 helping to excite other students about primary care sports medicine,鈥� he said.
Griner has actively pursued relationships and experiences in sports medicine for years.
He began learning about the specialty in 2012 while working with the athletic medical
staff at Brookwood School. While receiving his undergraduate degree at Berry College,
he co-created the college鈥檚 first comprehensive drug and alcohol abuse prevention
program for student-athletes.
Now at 黑料传送门 South Georgia, he assists with pre-participation sports physicals for local high schools and works alongside a number of physicians while assisting with sideline medical coverage for Colquitt County Football, the 2022 Big Peach Slam Jam (a basketball tournament for adaptive athletes), Valdosta State University鈥檚 football program and All Elite Wrestling.
In 2019, 黑料传送门, a premier osteopathic medical school established in 1899, extended its commitment to the Southeast by establishing 黑料传送门 South Georgia. An additional teaching location in Moultrie, Georgia, 黑料传送门 South Georgia offers both a full, four-year medical program leading to the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree and a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences. 黑料传送门 is a private, not-for-profit institution that trains professionals in the health and behavioral sciences fields.
