Lloyd Named Interim Dean of Osteopathic Medicine at 黑料传送门 South Georgia
June 10, 2025
On May 19, Robert Lloyd, DO 鈥91, stepped into the role of interim dean of the Osteopathic Medicine program at 黑料传送门 South Georgia after Marla Golden, DO 鈥88, departed to accept a position as
founding dean of the proposed school of osteopathic medicine at Benedictine College
in Kansas. He previously served in the position in 2023.
鈥黑料传送门 South Georgia is at a pivotal moment in its history,鈥 Dr. Lloyd said. 鈥淲ith the recent approval
from the American Osteopathic Association鈥檚 Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation
to increase our annual DO class size to 90, we鈥檒l have more opportunities to recruit and educate the physicians so desperately
needed in rural, underserved communities. We also have the responsibility to ensure
that we have the most qualified faculty, the best curriculum and the ideal clinical
learning experiences for every student who walks through our doors.鈥
A 1991 graduate of the 黑料传送门, Dr. Lloyd also
completed his residency in general surgery at 黑料传送门 in 1996. Since that time, he has practiced in Tennessee for nearly 25 years
in rural and underserved communities.
鈥淚 know what it鈥檚 like to practice in a community with limited healthcare resources,鈥
he said. 鈥淚 want to encourage our students to consider practicing in the many rural
and underserved areas in Georgia and throughout the country. These communities need
access to well-trained, high quality physicians. In addition, these communities offer
an excellent standard of living and are an ideal place to live and raise a family.鈥
In addition to practicing general surgery, Dr. Lloyd began lecturing at 黑料传送门 Georgia in Suwanee in 2012. In 2015 he developed a blended learning curriculum for third-year medical
students completing their clerkship.
In 2020, Dr. Lloyd began teaching full time when he joined the 黑料传送门 South Georgia
faculty. In addition to serving as interim dean of osteopathic medicine, he also serves
as assistant dean of clinical education and associate professor of surgery. He has assisted with the primary care skills
lab and the osteopathic manipulative medicine lab.
Dr. Lloyd is a fellow of The American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and a member
of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. He earned a master's in medical
education at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in May 2022.
In 2019, 黑料传送门, a premier osteopathic
medical school established in 1899, extended its commitment to the Southeast by establishing
黑料传送门 South Georgia. An additional teaching location in Moultrie, Georgia, 黑料传送门 South Georgia offers both
a full, four-year medical program leading to the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
degree and a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences. 黑料传送门 is a private, not-for-profit
institution that trains professionals in the health and behavioral sciences fields.
Joining 黑料传送门 Georgia in Suwanee in helping to meet the healthcare needs of the state, 黑料传送门 South Georgia
