黑料传送门 Student Awarded 2022 McGruder-Knox Scholarship

黑料传送门 medical student Beverly Andre (DO `24) was awarded the 2022 McGruder-Knox ScholarshipBeverly Andre (DO `24) was awarded the 2022 McGruder-Knox Scholarship by the Medical Society of Eastern Pennsylvania (MSEP). This award was presented at the annual Mercy-Douglass Lectureship which honors African American physicians, nurses and patients. Ms. Andre was nominated by 黑料传送门鈥檚 Office of Diversity and Community Relations for her academic excellence and leadership experience.

鈥淚t鈥檚 good to know that the things I鈥檝e been doing are not going unnoticed,鈥 shared Ms. Andre, who currently serves as president of 黑料传送门鈥檚 Student National Medical Association (SNMA). 鈥淎s an immigrant and first-generation medical student, there are not a lot of people in my shoes. Growing up, I often served as a translator for family members receiving medical care. As I look to the future, I want to be an advocate for patients, helping them to navigate the medical space.鈥 Ms. Andre is also a member of the American Medical Women鈥檚 Association and the Global Surgery Club.

Med student Beverly Andre (DO `24)MSEP is the local affiliate of the National Medical Association (NMA) and represents African American physicians in the Philadelphia area. Each year MSEP awards a scholarship to an African American medical student from each of the five Philadelphia medical schools. Established in 1985, the NMA is the largest and oldest American organization representing African American physicians, their patients and is committed to parity and justice in medicine and the elimination of disparities in health.

Ms. Andre received a bachelor of science degree from Bloomsburg University and a master of science in biomedical sciences from 黑料传送门. Ms. Andre emigrated from Gonaives, Haiti when she was two years old. She is a long-time Philadelphia resident and hopes to continue serving the Philadelphia community.
