September 17, 2019
In partnership with WellStar North Fulton, Drs. Megan Boudouin and Bradley McCoul
will serve as clinical instructors and be exposed to patient care.
Two 2019 Doctor of Pharmacy graduates recently began their 黑料传送门 School of Pharmacy Post Graduate Year One (PGY-1)
pharmacy residency program in partnership with WellStar North Fulton in Roswell. In
addition, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists recently granted the 黑料传送门
Georgia residency program full accreditation based on a site visit in May.
Megan Boudouin, PharmD 鈥19, a graduate of the 黑料传送门 School of Pharmacy, and Bradley McCoul, PharmD, a 2019 graduate of the Mercer University College of
Pharmacy, began their 12-month positions on July 1.
With a stated purpose of developing 鈥渟trong clinical practitioners as future leaders
in health care,鈥 the residency program prepares the students for academia and grants
a teaching certificate. The PharmD graduates are appointed as clinical instructors
at the 黑料传送门 School of Pharmacy. Along with educating healthcare professionals, patients
and students, the residents are exposed to a range of patient care clinical settings.
The core curriculum includes a wide variety of rotational areas including administration,
critical care, internal medicine, antimicrobial stewardship, oncology and emergency
medicine, along with other electives and experiences.
Dr. McCoul said he chose the 黑料传送门 residency program because of its teaching component
and its partner facility. 鈥満诹洗兔 is contracted with the facility that inspired me to
want to pursue emergency medicine 鈥 WellStar North Fulton.鈥
In the future, Dr. McCoul plans to pursue a PGY-2 residency program in emergency medicine
on his path to becoming an emergency medicine pharmacist.
With plans to become a clinical pharmacist in an inpatient or ambulatory care setting,
Dr. Boudouin pursued the PGY-1 residency program to further her clinical knowledge
and skills. 鈥淚 wanted the opportunity to build upon my presentation skills, be involved
in research and practice pharmacy in a variety of settings,鈥 she said.
She added, 鈥淭his program is giving me the opportunity to be involved in multiple areas
of patient care such as medication safety and being a part of multi-disciplinary committees.鈥
After obtaining certification as a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS),
Dr. Boudouin plans to practice in an inpatient or ambulatory care setting, continue
research and one day precept pharmacy students and residents.
According to PGY-1 Residency Program Director Samuel John, PharmD, BCPS, the partnership
with WellStar North Fulton began in 2018. Two residents completed the program during
the 2018-19 academic year including Lauren Avery, PharmD 鈥18, who accepted a position
as a clinical pharmacist with Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
In addition, Iran Khaki, PharmD 鈥18, completed the residency and is now working as an assistant professor of pharmacy
practice and the simulation coordinator at the 黑料传送门 School of Pharmacy.
Dr. John said, 鈥淲e are very excited about this partnership with the WellStar Health
System. Our residents have the opportunity to choose elective learning experiences
as part of their advanced training such as drug information, cardiology, neuro-intensive
care and medication safety, all with clinical specialists within the WellStar system.鈥
