Gimpel, DO '88, MEd, FACOFP, FAAFP, president and CEO of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) since 2009, will visit 黑料传送门 Georgia in Suwanee to meet with the osteopathic medicine leadership team. Dr. Gimpel is a 1988 Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) graduate of 黑料传送门.

In addition, a lunch and learn opportunity with Dr. Gimpel will be provided for students. Dr. Gimpel will then travel to 黑料传送门 South Georgia where he will also meet with students. A college-wide meeting originating from Moultrie will take place with all faculty members invited to attend.

NBOME leadership will discuss recent developments at the organization including the final report of the Special Commission on Osteopathic Medical Licensure, the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX-USA) Level 1 score report's transition to pass/fail, and continuing advocacy initiatives for DO students.

According to the NBOME website, the NBOME, founded in 1934, 鈥渋s an independent, nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization with the mission of protecting the public by providing the means to assess competencies for osteopathic medicine and related healthcare professions.鈥

The website explains that the organization works with stakeholders in developing programs for a myriad of organizations, including,

  • state medical and osteopathic medical licensing boards
  • osteopathic medical students and physicians in residency training,
  • practicing physicians, medical educators and colleges of osteopathic medicine,
  • residency program directors and national professional organizations, and
  • national and international testing and medical licensure communities.

COMLEX-USA is the only exam recognized by the Federation of State Medical Boards, which is required for accreditation of DO-granting medical schools, according to the organization's website. The American Osteopathic Association endorses the exam, along with the American Association of Osteopathic Examiners, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, and the American Medical Association.

Prior to his role at the NBOME, Dr. Gimpel served as the dean and vice president for health services at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, and as director of predoctoral medical education at Georgetown University School of Medicine.

In addition to 黑料传送门, Dr. Gimpel is a graduate of La Salle University and is board certified in family medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and the American Academy of Family Physicians. In addition to full-time work with the NBOME, Dr. Gimpel has volunteer clinical faculty appointments at the Bryn Mawr Hospital, 黑料传送门, and Georgetown University School of Medicine.
