黑料传送门 Georgia Doctor of Physical Therapy faculty members and students are well represented at the American Physical Therapy Conference Combined Sections virtual meeting, which takes place Feb. 1-28. On-demand and live offerings are occurring throughout the month.
In addition, the 100-year anniversary of the American Physical Therapy Association will be celebrated. APTA, a member organization, is known as America鈥檚 largest community for physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and students.
Department of Physical Therapy Professor Carol Miller, PT, PhD, GCS, along with Daniel Lee, PT, DPT, PhD, will provide a two hour presentation in the
Academy of Geriatrics on 鈥淭he Older Adult with Limb Loss: Specialized Care for a Special
Population.鈥�
In the Federal Physical Therapy section, Dr. Miller and Chris Doerger, PT, CP, will present 鈥滶vidence-Based Prescription of Therapeutic Intervention and Prosthetic Technology: Effects on Falls and Mobility.鈥�
Dr. Miller is a board-certified clinical specialist in geriatrics from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. With extensive experience in the rehabilitation, sub-acute and outpatient care settings, her areas of clinical expertise include geriatrics, especially amputee management, gait analysis and balance/fall risk, diabetic foot care, and arthritis/osteoporosis management.
She is a life member and serves on the scientific medical advisory board of the Amputee Coalition.
Platform presentations in the Academy of Pelvic Health are being presented by Department
of Physical Therapy Associate Professor Jennifer Wiley, PT, DHSc, DPT, and Department
of Physical Therapy Professor Ruth Maher, PT, PhD, DPT, WCS. Students Joy Leader (DPT
鈥�21), Katelyn Nesbit (DPT 鈥�21 ), and Tyler Shows (DPT 鈥�21 ) also collaborated on the
presentation. The platform is entitled 鈥淏ridging the Gap: The Lived Experience of
Women with Diastasis Recti Abdominis.鈥�
Dr. Wiley has clinical experience across the continuum of physical therapy including acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, wound care, hippotherapy, skilled nursing home, travel therapy and outpatient orthopedics, her main area of experience.
Dr. Maher and Department of Physical Therapy Professor Jeanne Welch, PT, DPT, NCS,
will present a poster in the Academy of Education entitled 鈥淣o Pain No Gain: Student
Performance over Time on the Revised Neurophysiology of Pain Questionnaire.鈥�
Dr. Welch is actively engaged in research in the area of women's health specifically looking at the effects of electrical stimulation on the reduction of diastasis recti in postpartum women and perceived change in functional level. Other research interests include improving the lives of individuals with neurological deficits and decreasing spasticity. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in neurology by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.
In addition, Dr. Maher will present a poster entitled 鈥淔OCUS on POCUS: Is It a Region
of Interest for PT Students.鈥� The presentation will be presented to the Academy of
Orthopedic Physical Therapy.
Dr. Maher is a board-certified clinical specialist in women鈥檚 health from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Her published research centers on assessment and validation of novel wearable neuromuscular stimulation devices in the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction and the use of ultrasound imaging in physical therapy research and practice.
