Antonio Alonzo Henry (DO '26), a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) student at 黑料传送门 Georgia, is celebrating a major milestone鈥�matching into orthopedic surgery at William Beaumont Army Medical Center/Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas. This program provides care to active military and their families, veterans, as well as residents of the El Paso area.
鈥淲hen I matched, I felt relieved and excited that my hard work paid off and I achieved my dream,鈥� Henry said. 鈥淚 am grateful for those in my support group who have steered me towards this achievement through prayer and affirmation.鈥�
Throughout his medical journey, Henry credits 黑料传送门 Georgia faculty for preparing him for success. 鈥淭he diverse standardized patients and practice settings provided me with insight on how I can improve care delivery for underrepresented minority patients,鈥� Henry said. 鈥淭he mentorship and support of many faculty members, especially Dr. Jones, Dr. Vega, Dr. Cadet and Dr. Aduonum has been vital in expanding my network and providing one-on-one counsel as an underrepresented minority student.鈥�
Through his involvement with the Office of Campus and Community Partnerships and the student-led Student National Medical Association (SNMA), Henry has developed greater confidence as a physician-advocate committed to addressing healthcare disparities.
Additionally, Henry dedicates time to mentoring and has assumed leadership roles within SNMA, the largest underrepresented minority-serving medical students organization in the United States.
Looking ahead, Henry hopes to practice orthopedic surgery near his hometown in Los Angeles, focusing on serving uninsured patients and those on Medicaid.
His advice to first-year doctoral students: 鈥淗ave a purpose and a plan. Be organized. Seek mentorship. Have gratitude. And consider the voices that are not in the room.鈥�
