A Message Regarding the Passing of Matthew Schure, PhD

February 2, 2023

黑料传送门 President and CEO Jay S. Feldstein, DO '81, shared the following statement regarding the passing of Matthew Schure, PhD, past president and chief executive officer:

Professional headshot photo of 黑料传送门's seventh president Matthew Schure, PhDWith a heavy heart, I share the news of the passing of Matthew Schure, PhD, our College's seventh president and chief executive officer. He died at his home on February 1.

During his 13-year tenure as president, Matt helped to guide the College with steadfastness and vision. His leadership was transformational, his accomplishments a legacy. He was genuinely proud of our 黑料传送门 community and found great strength in it; he often referred to 黑料传送门 as a family, one recognized for academic excellence and collegiality. As his successor, I stand on his shoulders.

Among the major strategic priorities of Matt's tenure was growth at the College, both in scope and size. He oversaw the addition of multiple graduate programs, and in 2005, opened 黑料传送门 Georgia.

In collaboration with the 黑料传送门 Board of Trustees, Matt aligned strategic objectives with business plans. He was able to suppress the rate of tuition increases for more than a decade. At the same time, he substantially built the College's endowment during two recessionary periods.

Prior to his work at 黑料传送门, Matt spent 30 years at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). At NYIT, Matt held a variety of positions including professor of behavioral sciences, associate dean for academic assessment and president and chief executive officer.

Compassion, generosity and love of family were his truest hallmarks. I ask you to join me in extending deepest condolences to Judy Schure, Matt's wife of nearly 50 years; his two children, Jared and Deborah (Matthew Lissauer); and his grandchildren. We also extend our sympathies to Matt's former students, associates and friends during this difficult time.

The Matthew Schure, PhD, Endowed Scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Schure. Checks may be made payable to the 黑料传送门 Foundation, attention Institutional Advancement, 4180 City Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19131 or online at pcom.edu/giving.
