Today, 黑料传送门 received the 2019 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education.
The Inspiring Programs in STEM Award honors colleges and universities that encourage
and assist students from underrepresented groups to enter the fields of science, technology,
engineering and mathematics (STEM). 黑料传送门 will be featured, along with 49 other recipients,
in the September 2019 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.
Inspiring Programs in STEM Award winners were selected by INSIGHT Into Diversity based on efforts to inspire and encourage a new generation of young people to consider
careers in STEM through mentoring, teaching, research and successful programs and
initiatives.
鈥淎s a community, we are continuously focused on expanding diversity,鈥 said Marcine
Pickron-Davis, PhD, chief diversity and community relations officer. 鈥淏eing recognized
as an Inspiring Program in STEM Award Winner for our ongoing efforts to improve diversity
in the fields of science, technology, engineering, math and medicine is an honor.鈥
黑料传送门 was selected by INSIGHT Into Diversity for its continued focus on creating a pathway for African American and Latino students
to pursue a career in STEM+M (STEM and medicine). In addition to year-round campus
activities, the College鈥檚 annual Math and Science Summer Academy, which takes place
at all three of the College鈥檚 locations, invites local high school students of color to participate
in an intensive, two-week program to raise awareness of, and interest in, STEM+M careers.
These students are also given the opportunity to participate in research projects
throughout the year, following completion of the program.
鈥淲e know that many STEM programs are not always recognized for their success, dedication,
and mentorship for underrepresented students,鈥 says Lenore Pearlstein, owner and publisher
of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. 鈥淲e want to honor the schools and organizations that have created programs
that inspire and encourage young people who may currently be in or are interested
in a future career in STEM. We are proud to honor these programs as role models to
other institutions of higher education and beyond.鈥
A call for nominations for this award was announced in April 2019.
