Students and staff from Oak Hill Classical School received a lesson in anatomy and explored medical careers with Jeremy Walker, DO '12.
This week, eight students, along with three adults, from Oak Hill Classical School in Dacula, Georgia, received a lesson in anatomy from one of our alumni, Jeremy Walker, DO 鈥�12.
Dr. Walker, now a hospitalist at Northeast Georgia Health System in Braselton and a resident of Dacula, made arrangements with the anatomy lab at Georgia Campus 鈥� 黑料传送门 (GA-黑料传送门) to accompany the students and conduct a lesson. According to Kristi Cain, an Oak Hill faculty member who teaches anatomical and biological sciences, the students are juniors who are taking advanced biology with a focus this semester on anatomy and physiology.
Dr. Walker said, 鈥淲e had a nice visit to campus today and it鈥檚 crazy to see how much the campus has changed since I graduated from the DO program in 2012.鈥� He said, 鈥淭he students enjoyed learning about anatomical structures using state of the art 3D programs in addition to various models. They especially enjoyed seeing how the respiratory system works.鈥�
Anatomical Coordinator Ron Wilde said, 鈥淚t鈥檚 always great to see young people getting excited about anatomy and being a part of that experience.鈥�
Two years ago, Dr. Walker鈥檚 son attended kindergarten at the Dacula school. He met Cain at a parent meeting. 鈥淲e had a discussion about using our collective talents and gifts as a means to provide unique opportunities for the student body. As a parent and physician, I felt called to volunteer some time to help give anatomy students a practical avenue to experience anatomy and explore potential career paths in the health science field.鈥�
The first visit to GA-黑料传送门 was scheduled in 2016. 鈥�Jeff Seiple helped to provide a great experience for the students,鈥� Dr. Walker said. When an anatomy class was offered at Oak Hill this year, Dr. Walker again connected with Seiple, who directs the anatomical donor program at GA-黑料传送门, to organize a trip. 鈥淚 enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience with the students,鈥� he said.
Dr. Walker and his wife are the parents of four children nine years of age and under. He completed an internal medicine residency at the Greenville Health System in Greenville, South Carolina. With children no longer at Oak Hill, he said that he and his wife feel strongly about the school and the manner in which they are carrying out their mission of caring for and educating students in a Christian environment.
